Ok, so I promised Julia a review of Patricia Kaas a few months ago. I’m known for being late for everything so please forgive me.

Let’s just say, I had a difficult time finding any of these songs online. First off, they took so freaking long to download – I guess I deserve it for trying to download it illegally to begin with :D but I digress…..

Let’s put it out there, the first time I heard Patricia Kaas, I wasn’t too keen on her. I mean, come on, a French artist trying to sing jazz/blues? That’s ludicrous. So, let’s give it another try….nope, still not feeling it. I had only heard her recorded material at this point.

However, one only has to listen to her live performances to actually see (or hear) what the big deal is. She’s got this husky vibe to her voice that I swear reminds me of a much older Josephine Baker. I hear Patricia, I automatically think of a smokey, French, jazz club.

Of all the songs Julia recommended, my favourite one is ‘Mademoiselle chante le blues “ (from her debut album). There is a hint of naivety in her voice that I find endearing in this recording. It’s a voice that is not quite there yet, but has potential to be – and it does in her later recordings.

I did purchase her greatest hits - Rien Ne S'Arrete because there were a few live recordings (expensive btw because it's an import), but also for 'La Vie En Rose 'which brings back a lot of memories for me (my grandmother has an old 45 that she use to play over and over again on her player).

I’m not a big fan of her English songs, i.e. ‘If You Go Away’ and “What Now My Love”. I don’t find her as emotionally connected as when she is singing in her native tongue (kind of like the way Celine is – but Patricia is no Celine Dion, not that this planet needs another Celine anyway).

I’ve read on a few message boards that Patricia Kaas’ next recording is suppose to be an album of all English recordings – for Julia’s sake, I hope not.
