As one who never quite believed that ISLAND DEF JAM would be a good fit for Janet (especially since the theme of her last few albums have been "I'm still black, y'all"), this really doesn't surprise me. I don't believe for a second that the lack of promotion can be entirely blamed on the label, but I don't understand how an artist like Janet can fully promote without the label's support. And given the dismal chart performance of her latest two records, it wouldn't surprise me if IDJ felt like they knew better than Janet (a far different scenario from Janet and VIRGIN and the single selections on janet. and TVR). Maybe this'll make her hungry (lol) and start attacking her career (on all levels) like an indie artist. I can only hope.
