Whitney's self-titled debut album was released 20 years ago, today, February 14th, 1985! And what an excellent album. You Give Good Love, Saving All My Love For You, Greatest Love of All, All At Once, How Will I Know and Hold Me remain standouts. Thinkin' About You and Someone For Me are also quite grand. I've developed a new appreciation for Thinkin' About You especially. The only real miss for me is the Jermaine duet, Nobody Loves You Like I Do.
So here's to the debut that launched the career of a true Superstar:

Whitney masterpiece I'm feeling at the moment: God Bless America, live in NYC in 1999. In this patriotic sequel to her legendary SSB performance, Whitney does what she does best: Combines earth-shattering power, clarity, and range, with a torn-from-the-gut gospelicious flair.
